This is an encore presentation of my interview with award-winning composer Missy Mazzoli. Missy shares insights about her mentors, creative process, and how finding the journals of Swiss explorer Isabelle Eberhardt in a Boston bookstore led to her debut chamber opera Song From the Uproar.

As part of the NYC River to River Festival, Missy plays tonight at the Michael Schimmel Center at Pace University, 3 Spruce Street.

Special guests include mezzo-soprano Abigail Fischer, sopranos Kamala Sankaram and Celine Mogielnicki, alto Caroline Shaw, and filmmakers Stephen S. Taylor and Jen Stock.

Shakespeare’s Curtain Theatre remains found

Archaeologists have discovered the remains of an Elizabethan theatre where some of William Shakespeare’s plays were first performed.

The remains of the Curtain Theatre, which opened in 1577, were found behind a pub in Shoreditch, east London, as part of regeneration works.

The venue was immortalised as “this wooden O” in the prologue to Henry V.

It is hoped the site could be opened to the public, with plays staged there in the future.
